IceBreaker® Heat and Cool Operation
The SQ200R can operate in:
- Heating mode
- Cooling mode
- AutoTemp mode
IceBreaker technology allows the unit to continue heating during freezing ambient conditions to help minimize pool-water heat loss. Cooling mode can lower pool-water temperature when outdoor conditions make the pool uncomfortably warm.
Built-In PoolSync® Wi-Fi
PoolSync Wi-Fi is built into the SQ200R, so no separate Wi-Fi controller is required.
Through the PoolSync app, users can:
- Change heating and cooling modes
- Adjust temperature settings
- Use AutoTemp operation
- Create operating schedules
- Monitor current operation
- View equipment status
- Support remote diagnostics and troubleshooting
A compatible 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network is required for remote access.
Smart Controls
The weather-protected control panel includes a 24-character full-text LCD display with easy-to-read menus and equipment status.
The HP11 control system supports:
- Heating, cooling, and AutoTemp modes
- Temperature scheduling
- Onboard diagnostics
- Freeze-protection settings
- External pool-controller connections
- Compatible variable-speed pump control
- Optional relay and equipment-control upgrades
Electrical Configurations
The SQ200R is offered in the following configurations:
208–230V / 60 Hz / Single Phase
- Minimum circuit ampacity: 42.1 amps
- Maximum fuse size: 60 amps
208–230V / 60 Hz / Three Phase
- Minimum circuit ampacity: 33.3 amps
- Maximum fuse size: 50 amps
460V / 60 Hz / Three Phase
- Minimum circuit ampacity: 16.2 amps
- Maximum fuse size: 25 amps
Confirm the selected voltage and phase configuration before ordering. Electrical installation must be completed by a qualified professional according to AquaCal instructions and applicable codes.
Water-Flow Requirements
- Minimum water flow: 30 GPM
- Maximum water flow: 70 GPM
- Water connections: 2-inch unions
- Maximum operating pressure: 50 PSI
A heater bypass kit or another suitable bypass arrangement is required when system flow may exceed 70 GPM. AquaCal offers the STK0135 Bypass Valve Kit for controlling excessive flow through the heat pump.
The unit must receive clean, filtered water. Dirty filters, blocked baskets, improper valve positions, or inadequate pump speed can reduce water flow and heating performance.
Installation Requirements
The SQ200R must be installed by qualified professionals in accordance with AquaCal instructions and applicable electrical, plumbing, and local requirements.
Installation requirements include:
- Outdoor installation with unrestricted airflow
- Flat, level, code-approved equipment pad
- Full support beneath the heat-pump base
- Adequate condensate drainage
- Manufacturer-required airflow and service clearances
- Protection from irrigation and concentrated roof runoff
- No corrosive chemical storage near the unit
- Proper grounding, bonding, and electrical disconnect
- Wind-load anchoring where required
- Clean, filtered pool water within the specified flow range
The shipping brackets used to secure the unit to the pallet are approved for anchoring the heat pump to the equipment pad.
Do not install the unit indoors or in an enclosed area without prior review by AquaCal’s Application Department or a qualified professional engineer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the SQ200R heat and cool?
Yes. The SQ200R provides heating, cooling, and AutoTemp operation.
How many BTUs does it produce?
It produces up to 138,000 BTU at 80°F water, 80°F air, and 80% relative humidity. At 50°F ambient air, it is rated at 88,000 BTU under the published test conditions.
Is Wi-Fi included?
Yes. PoolSync Wi-Fi is built into the SQ200R. A separate Wi-Fi controller is not required.
Can it operate in freezing weather?
The IceBreaker system is designed to continue heating during freezing ambient conditions to help minimize pool-water heat loss. Actual output declines as outdoor temperatures fall.
What water flow is required?
The SQ200R requires 30–70 GPM. A bypass kit or suitable bypass system is required if flow may exceed 70 GPM.
Which electrical version should I order?
The SQ200R is available in 208–230V single phase, 208–230V three phase, and 460V three phase. Confirm the site’s electrical service before ordering.
Does it work with a variable-speed pump?
Yes. AquaCal’s ThermoLink hydraulic design and HP11 controller support compatibility with many variable-speed pool pumps. The pump must still maintain the required water flow.
Can it be installed indoors?
AquaCal specifies outdoor installation. Any proposed indoor installation should be reviewed by AquaCal’s Application Department or a qualified professional engineer before proceeding.
